Throughout his work in philanthropy, culture and the arts, <\/span>Bruno Wang<\/span><\/a> has often returned to a broader idea: the journey within shapes the world beyond. How people understand themselves can influence how they move through the world, relate to others and create space for different ways of being.<\/span><\/p>\n

That philosophy sits at the heart of <\/span>Queer, Asian & Visible<\/span><\/i>, a new short film produced through the <\/span>Pure Land Foundation<\/span><\/a> in collaboration with artist and performer <\/span>Le Fil<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Rather than documenting a stage performance or exploring identity through interviews, the film focuses on something quieter. It follows Le Fil in the moments before performance begins: selecting jewellery, applying make-up and preparing to step into the world. In doing so, it presents visibility not as a public declaration, but as a deeply personal process of recognition, expression and becoming.<\/span><\/p>\n

The result is not a film about transformation in the theatrical sense. It is a meditation on authenticity, identity and the deeply personal process of becoming visible.<\/span><\/p>\n

For <\/span>Bruno Wang<\/span><\/a>, that approach reflects a wider philosophy that has shaped much of his work across both the <\/span>Pure Land Foundation<\/span><\/a> and <\/span>Bruno Wang<\/span><\/a> Productions.<\/span><\/p>\n

Storytelling has never been about offering audiences easy answers. Instead, it creates opportunities to experience perspectives that might otherwise remain unfamiliar. Whether supporting theatre productions exploring injustice, addiction and belonging, or producing films centred on emotional wellbeing and spirituality, <\/span>Bruno Wang<\/span><\/a> has consistently been drawn to stories that invite reflection.<\/span><\/p>\n

The collaboration with Le Fil continues that approach. Internationally recognised for blending music, fashion and drag performance, Le Fil has become one of Britain’s most distinctive queer Asian artists. Yet <\/span>Queer, Asian & Visible<\/span><\/i> deliberately avoids asking them to become a spokesperson for an entire community.<\/span><\/p>\n

Instead, Le Fil offers something more personal.<\/span><\/p>\n

“I don’t think I represent a community as such,” they explain. “I feel like I’m a bit like a lighthouse that can shine lots of rainbow light… for other people to go, ‘There’s something that exists over there. I’m going to try and navigate and swim towards that.'”<\/span><\/p>\n

The image of a lighthouse perfectly captures the spirit of the film. It does not direct others or claim authority. It simply makes another possibility visible.<\/span><\/p>\n

That distinction has become increasingly important in <\/span>Bruno Wang<\/span><\/a>‘s own thinking.<\/span><\/p>\n

Following London Pride 2026, <\/span>Bruno Wang<\/span><\/a> reflected publicly on growing up as a gay man within a conservative Buddhist family and how those experiences influenced his understanding of compassion. Rather than seeing spirituality and LGBTQ+ identity as opposing ideas, he has spoken about the importance of creating spaces where people are able to be recognised in the fullness of who they are.<\/span><\/p>\n

This perspective has informed a growing number of collaborations through the Pure Land Foundation, including conversations with Japanese Buddhist monk and LGBTQ+ advocate <\/span>Kodo Nishimura<\/span><\/a>, whose series <\/span>Buddhist, Queer and Beautiful<\/span><\/i> explored how spirituality, creativity and identity can coexist.<\/span><\/p>\n

Queer, Asian & Visible<\/span><\/i> continues that conversation through a different artistic language. The film simply allows audiences to witness moments that would usually remain private. The camera moves slowly. Silence is given room to breathe. Identity is presented not as something performed for others, but as something quietly recognised within oneself.<\/span><\/p>\n

In many ways, this reflects <\/span>Bruno Wang<\/span><\/a>‘s broader approach to cultural philanthropy.<\/span><\/p>\n

Across exhibitions, theatre, film and public events, his work has consistently explored how creativity can foster empathy and human connection. Whether supporting <\/span>Tibetan Buddhist sand mandalas<\/span><\/a> on London’s South Bank, producing socially engaged theatre, or collaborating with artists exploring identity and belonging, the objective remains remarkably consistent: to create experiences that encourage people to see each other with greater compassion.<\/span><\/p>\n

Queer, Asian & Visible<\/span><\/i> asks a simple but enduring question.<\/span><\/p>\n

What if visibility is not about becoming famous or widely recognised? What if it begins with allowing ourselves, and others, to be seen honestly?<\/span><\/p>\n
